Universal Credit Full Service rolls out across North Tyneside
On 2nd May 2018, Universal Credit was rolled out across the whole North Tyneside area as a full service, meaning that most people making new claims for unemployment benefit, sickness benefit or help while on a low income will now be affected by the new benefit.
Citizens Advice are concerned that some claimants will be worse off in work or have difficulty managing their money – see our previous press releases on both these points:
Universal Credit could leave some workers financial stability hanging in the balance
One North Tyneside Resident helped by us last year had lived in her family home for 21 years and had run into significant rent arrears when receiving Universal Credit, and was facing formal possession action by her landlord. We had to help her with her budgeting, apply for a discretionary top-up towards her rent from the local authority and formally defend the possession claim in order to allow her to keep her home.
